Slushies are my favorite way to cool down when the temperatures are on the rise. The great thing about a slush is that you can make one with almost any fruit you have on hand. Add a little juice, some fresh or frozen fruit and milk or yogurt for creaminess, and you’ve got yourself a winner. This Blueberry-Strawberry Cream Slush is a hit anytime you’re craving something cold and sweet.

Get the blender ready! Let’s make a couple of yummy slushies. By the way, this recipe makes two large slushies with a little left over.

Here are the ingredients you’ll need:

• 1 cup blueberries
• 1 cup strawberries
• 1 cup fat-free vanilla yogurt
• 1 cup orange juice
• 1 teaspoon sugar (optional for extra sweetness)
• 8-10 ice cubes

A word of advice: Every blender is different. Seriously. I’ve had small, low-powered blenders before that take a few minutes to crush up all the ingredients for a slushie. This one, on the other hand, gets the job done in about 45 seconds or so.

I recommend pulsing the ingredients for 10-15 seconds at a time until you reach the desired consistency. That way, if you like your slushies thick and icy, you can catch it before it smooths out too much.

Directions:

1. Add all ingredients to blender. If using frozen fruit, reduce or eliminate the ice cubes.
2. Pulse for about 10-15 seconds at a time until the mixture is at the desired consistency. If the slush mixture is too thin, add more ice. If it is too thick, add more juice.
3. Serve and enjoy.

If you don’t have orange juice on hand, pineapple juice or any orange-flavored drink can be substituted. For a lighter taste, try blueberries and bananas instead of blueberries and strawberries. Really, you can’t go wrong.
